Create a Quarantine Time Capsule!
This is a year like no other....... document it so that you never forget! Materials:
Think about the year..... especially the beginning of this school year. Gather artifacts that will remind you of the year when you look back at it a long time from now. Some ideas:
Math Challenge:
#1 20 students are lining up to board the bus. Jack is in 12th place from the front. Ann is at the 5th place from the back. How many people are standing between Jack and Ann? #2 There are 120 red marbles and 130 blue marbles in a box. Another 200 green marbles are added into the box. How many marbles are there in the box now? Writing Challenge: Write a paragraph about summer, starting every sentence with the letter s. Math Challenge:
10 people were in a queue (what is a queue???) to return their library books. Joanne was the 7th person from the front. Bob was the 6th person from the back. How many people were standing between Bob and Joanne? Writing Challenge: Which is worse- being cold or being hot? Defend your position. :) Math Challenge: STEM Challenge: Make an X-Wing Fighter from office supplies: For directions, click here. Remember you can make any modifications to the list of supplies based on what you have in your house. The more creative, the better!
Math and STEM Combination:
Build the most creative structure you can with Legos. The catch: you can only have exactly 100 stubs (the bumps on the top of the legos that hold the bricks together; a 2 x 4 lego has 8 stubs) in your structure. Bonus: explain how you calculated the number of stubs. Math Challenge:
Four children were lining up to buy lunch from the school canteen. Their names are Lucy, Bill, Jim, and Mary. Lucy was first and Bill was last. Mary was behind Lucy, but in front of Jim. Who was third in line? Introducing a new challenge......... Writing Challenge: "Create a Toy" Imagine you're creating a new toy. Draw a picture of it and then develop a user's guide for it. Coin Combinations! How many different coin combinations can you find to equal: 10 cents 12 cents 3 cents 25 cents 18 cents STEM CHALLENGE: What do plants need to grow? After you find out the 5 main components needed for growth,,,,,,,,,,, Walk around your yard (or go on a walk) and find a plant to draw. Make sure to use lots of details. Do you know the name of your plant? Can you find out? |
